The iPhone family just got bigger. During this morning’s live event, Apple CEO, Tim Cook, unveiled the anxiously-awaited iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The all-new devices are designed with increased sizes, NFC, enhanced slow motion camera and more.
Take your pick. With the two largest iPhones to date, the iPhone 6 features a 4.7″ display, while the iPhone 6 Plus’ display measures at 5.5″. The glass screen curves to the edge of the devices for an enhanced display. Apple has also unveiled its horizontal view for email, iMessage, weather and more, giving users the option of how they’ll use their new device. The iPhone 6 is just 6.9 millimeters thin, with the slightly thicker iPhone 6 Plus is 7.1millimeters thin.
A completely new feature to iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, Apple Pay is a secure mobile payment that uses Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. Using the Passport Application, Apple Pay is a tap-to-pay payment method that securely stores your credit cards and requires Touch ID to make payment. Launching with several well known retailers including Whole Foods, Subway Restaurants and Macy’s Department Stores, Apple Pay will also be used with iTunes. Cook emphasized its advancements in security versus a plastic credit card, as the merchant does not see customer’s name, credit card numbers or security ID.
As with every new Apple device, the camera and video applications received impressive upgrades. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus iSight camera feature image stabilization, upgraded slow motion video camera capabilities and face detection among others.
