Sometimes when a new phone comes out, it’s hard to decide whether it’s worth the upgrade or not. That’s what we’re here for. When Samsung announced the new Galaxy S8 and S8+, there was a lot of information to digest. Not sure what an HDR-certified screen is? Never heard of Bixby? We’re here to break down the eight most important features of the GS8 and GS8+.
1. Big, Bold Screen.
The Samsung GS8 and GS8+ are the first smartphones to have an infinity display. What is an infinity screen? It’s an edge to edge screen, giving you the most amount of display possible. These devices are also the first smartphones to have an HDR-certified screen. HDR, which stands for high dynamic range, means the camera will process photos differently than normal in order to capture greater detail from bright and dark areas in your photo.

2. Selfie Camera on Fleek.
The previous galaxies have had great cameras and this one is no different. The GS8 and GS8+ take amazing photos in low light but also have an enhanced front-facing aka selfie camera so your selfies will be clearer than ever before.
3. Passwords are so last year.
Last year Samsung introduced the iris scanner to unlock the galaxy. This year, they went one step further and introduced the face scanner. Now you can unlock the GS8 and GS8+ by just holding the device up to your face. We see this being extra handy when you’re in cold weather and aren’t wearing tech enhanced gloves to type that password in.

4. Meet Bixby.
Samsung has created their own version of Siri and named her (or him?) Bixby. Samsung’s goal with Bixby is “anything you can do with touch, you can do with voice.” Do you want to send the picture you’re looking at to your Mom? All you have to say is “Bixby, please send this photo to Mom” and boom, that task is done without touching a thing. If that’s not convenient, we don’t know what is.

5. Control your home, from your phone.
Bixby can also help control your smart home accessories. Want to turn the lights off? Want to turn the heat on? You can do that all with Bixby. Samsung also claims Bixby will learn your route and habits like what time you come home from work ie. turn the lights on at that time. Only time will tell if that will actually work or not.
6. Long lasting Battery.
One major key to a great smartphone is a non-exploding battery. Samsung took extra precaution with the Galaxy S8 and S8+ by putting the battery through an eight-step safety check. The GS8 and GS8+ have a long battery life, with up to 29 hours and 33 hours, respectively. As long as this phone doesn’t burst into flames, we’ll be satisfied.
7. 360 is the new 180.
Want to take your photos and videos to the next level? Shoot them with the dust and water-resistant Gear 360 and then edit, view and share on your Galaxy S8 or S8+.
8. Headphones are here to stay (for now).
One of the things people miss most with the iPhone 7 is the headphone jack. While bluetooth headphones seem to be the way of the future, a lot of people are not ready to make the jump yet. Samsung clearly heard that feedback and gave their customers the option to use headphones with the 3.5mm headphone jack. Standard headphones lovers, you’re safe for now.
