10 REASONS TO UPGRADE TO IPHONE XS, IPHONE XS MAX & IPHONE XR

Ahhh, September. One of the most-anticipated months in the tech world. Why? Because Apple has made a pattern of unveiling their latest iPhone lineup. And this year we got not two but three new models: iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max and iPhone XR. Even more exciting? Our huge range of protective cases choose from for each new model!

At Incipio HQ, we all gathered ‘round our squircle-shaped communal space and watched (with bated breath) the Apple livestream. Rumors about new features and specs had been swirling for months, yet Apple still managed to blow us away.

Some updates and features are minor (but awesome) while others are huge—and we’re totally sold on making the upgrade. Here are 10 reasons why you should be too:

  1. OPTIONS FOR A VARIETY OF BUDGETS

The three new iPhone versions have a price range that varies pretty drastically, so you have a lot of options to choose from depending on how much you want to spend and what features are most important to you.

At the top of the tier, there’s the iPhone Xs Max with a 6.5-inch screen, then iPhone Xs with a 5.8-inch screen—both have the “most advanced” features ever provided in iPhone. Meanwhile, the more budget-friendly iPhone XR still integrates breakthrough technologies from iPhone Xs, but differs a bit on other features, like the screen size (6.1 inches) and type, color options, water-resistance rating and camera (more on these later).

Here’s the price breakdown:

iPhone Xs (5.8-inch screen): 64GB at $999 | 256GB at $1,149 | 512GB at $1,349

iPhone Xs Max (6.5-inch screen): 64GB at $1,099 | 256GB at $1,249 | 512GB at $1,449

iPhone XR (6.1-inch screen): 64GB at $749 | 256GB at $799 | 512GB at $899

  1. IMPROVED GLASS AND WATER RESISTANCE

According to Apple, the updated glass back on all three new versions is made of “the most durable glass ever in a smartphone with improved scratch resistance”. Plus, the water resistance has been upgraded. iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max have a splash- and water-resistance IP68 rating (up to two meters for 30 minutes), while iPhone XR has an IP67 rating which protects against everyday spills (and not just water!).

  1. NEW COLORS!

Who doesn’t like color options? Here’s what’s available:

iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max: silver, space gray and gold (it’s gorgeous!)

iPhone XR: white, black, blue, yellow, coral and PRODUCT(RED)™

  1. EVEN BETTER CAMERA THAN IPHONE X

The new cameras built into the new iPhone models are super impressive. Here’s the gist:

All three models have rear cameras with 12-megapixel wide-angle and telephoto sensors. And they have the new Smart HDR feature that elevates the standard HDR feature—it takes several photos at once (with different exposure settings), then puts the best parts of each photo into one image, resulting in an amazing final photo. It also allows you to adjust the depth of field after the fact!

The big difference between the two iPhone Xs models and iPhone XR is that the latter has a single rear camera (limiting some photography effects), while the other two have dual cameras. All three, however, have the same impressive 7-megapixel front-facing camera.

  1. FACE ID NOW COMES STANDARD (AND IT’S FASTER)

Touch ID is now a thing of the past on iPhone. All new models come with Face ID, and Apple optimized its software so this tech is faster and more secure than ever before.

  1. DUAL SIM-CARD SUPPORT

This is a huge one for international travelers: Each new iPhone allows you to use two SIM cards (eSIM and nanoSIM) simultaneously—so you can keep your home country number working while also using a SIM card from the country you’re visiting.

  1. IMPRESSIVE SCREENS

All three models have beautiful edge-to-edge displays, so you can’t really go wrong, but there are some key differences.

iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max: Both feature upgraded Super Retina screens; the OLED displays have amazing resolution and pixel density (which vary according to the screen size).

iPhone XR: Features an LCD screen, which Apple calls “Liquid Retina” and claims is the most advanced LCD in a smartphone.

  1. MAJOR PROCESSOR UPGRADE

Apple outdid itself with its new processor. The innovative company designed the A12 Bionic, “the smartest and most powerful chip in a smartphone”, and integrated it into all three new models. (It’s also the first 7-nanometer chip in a smartphone!). We’ll spare you all the super technical info and jargon, but just know this: The A12 Bionic processor means these phones are super-fast and significantly more efficient than iPhone X.

  1. LONGER BATTERY LIFE

With the amount of time we spend on our phones, a long-lasting battery is essential. Each new iPhone has great battery life when compared to previous models.

iPhone Xs gets 30 minutes more battery life than iPhone X: Up to 20 hours of wireless talk time, 12 hours of internet use, 14 hours of video playback and 60 hours of wireless audio playback.

iPhone Xs Max gets 90 minutes more battery life than iPhone X: Up to 25 hours of wireless talk time, 13 hours of internet use, 15 hours of video playback and 65 hours of wireless audio playback.

iPhone XR gets 90 minutes more battery life than iPhone 8 Plus: Up to 25 hours of wireless talk time, 15 hours of internet use, 16 hours of video playback and 65 hours of wireless audio playback.

  1. FASTER WIRELESS CHARGING

That durable glass back on the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max? It doesn’t just look beautiful, it’s also functional: It enables faster wireless charging.

Lucky for you, all three iPhone versions are available for pre-order starting September 14 (for you early adopters) and available for purchase online and in stores on September 21. And don’t forget to snag an Incipio protective case to complete your upgrade!
